It's best if you can book in for the group Thai cooking classes at least a day before you would like to take a class with me.   If there are certain dishes that you want to make like Green Curry or Khao Soi etc then you can check the calendar below to see if any classes have already been booked in with those dishes or see when the next available class is that doesn't have a menu set yet so you can be the first to book in an pick the 3 dishes we'll make.

 I buy the ingredients before the class so I need to know what we'll need.  I don't offer a market tour as part of the my courses, this is because here on Koh Tao we don't have a market like on some of the bigger Thai islands and on the mainland. 

I offer two standard Thai cooking classes each day at my home in Koh Tao from Monday to Saturday, one in the morning starting at 9:30 am and one in the afternoon starting at 2 pm.

The maximum group size for my cooking classes is 7 people at my cooking school, which is on the roof of my house.  Everyone in the class has their own cooking and preparation station.

During the class you will make 3 different dishes which the first people to book in for each lesson will get to choose the dishes for that class, those dishes can be vegetarian, non-vegetarian etc. People can let me know when they book their preferences and any allergies details.

The 3 dishes can be any of those that you can see on the Thai cooking class menu page.

Once the menu for the class has been decided on I will get the ingredients in advance for the class so that when everyone has arrived for the course we can get started with preparing the ingredients straight away and start making the first dish.

We can either make all three dishes and then you can eat all three together or we can make one at a time and you can eat each one when it is ready.  Many people do find eating three dishes quite a lot and so you can also decide to take some of the food away with you for later on in the day.

How much does it cost to book the standard Thai cooking class?

Book in to take the standard cooking class where the first person/people to book in for that class get to pick the dishes that everyone will cook and the price for that is 1,500 baht per person and that includes all ingredients for 3 dishes.  The standard classes start at 9:30 am and 2 pm.

Learn to Cook Thai Food with an Online Virtual Thai Cooking Class

I love eating Thai food and teaching people how to cook Thai food too. The Coronavirus meant that it was difficult for a lot of people to come to visit my beautiful country between March 2020 and July 2021. I do still offer online Thai cooking classes for people that are not able to come over to take a cooking class with me hereat my cooking school on Koh Tao.  If you are missing the spicy flavours of Thai cuisine, not to worry I offer people the option to also take an online virtual Thai cooking class with me from their own home.  These online virtual cook-along Thai cooking classes are private classes where I will be your chef cooking the same dish as you so I can guide you through how to make each of the Thai dishes no matter what your cooking skills level is.  If you want to have a few friends round to cook together and then enjoy what you have cooked that is no problem.

 So how does taking online virtual cooking classes work?

 

  •  Well, it's unlikely you'll be able to sign up and start your online Thai cooking class straight away as there is a little more planning that we'll need to do.

  •  First I suggest contacting me to let me know that you are interested in taking a Thai cooking class online so that we can make arrangements to take an online class.  You can do this either by email, the WhatsApp or Messenger links on my website.

  • To check my availability for online classes please contact me with by email or WhatsApp.

  •  Then we can arrange a time for your virtual Thai cooking course that works well for both yourself and me.  As there is likely to be a time difference between your country and here. 

  •  Then you will also need to decide on your favourite Thai food dishes that you would like to learn to make on the online Thai cooking course.

This is an important step so that we can check to make sure the ingredients that you need for particular Thai dishes you can get before the course.  Some people may not be able to get all of the Thai ingredients.  If this is the case usually, there will be an alternative that can be used.  If we find that there is something that you can't get that is vital to the recipe then you can select another dish to make, a good example of this is Ka Pow (Thai Holy Basil Ocimum tenuiflorum) which is the main ingredient for Pad Ka Pow, which is a very popular Basil and Chili dish in Thailand.  As this basil is a bit spicy and so trying to substitute it with different basil like sweet basil or Italian basil give the dish a completely different flavour.  Most ingredients are fairly easy to source like bell pepper, light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, coconut milk and Jasmine rice.  However, some ingredients like fish sauce, oyster sauce, tamarind paste, palm sugar and Thai basil may not be as easy to source depending on the country you live in.  The same with the equipment you have available in your kitchen as not everyone may have all of the kitchen utensils like a mortar and pestle, but they may have a food processor which will be needed if you chose to make one of the Thai curries as I will show you how to make the curry paste from scratch.  Also if you have any special dietary restrictions for example people who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet or food allergies, for example, peanuts or shellfish.

  •  Before the lesson, we can also arrange a quick test to ensure that the video call link up is working all fine before the class on your laptop, tablet or mobile device.

 I usually use Zoom or Google Meet for my online classes, but there are other options available too, but Zoom seems to work well. I use a set-up with 2 cameras running here so that you can see me and what I cooking.

  •  Then once everything is set and we are all ready for your cooking class then you can pay before we start using Stripe.

Is the online Thai Cooking lesson live or recorded?

My online cooking experiences are live so you can ask me questions and I can give you tips on cooking techniques, to help you improve your cooking skills as I believe if online experiences aren't live then it's not a proper cooking experience.
 

How long does an online Thai Cooking Class take?

 It usually takes around an hour for each dish that we cook, some take less time and others take longer. For example, Thai curries usually take longer as you will learn how to make the curry paste before making your curry.  I offer the option to cook either 1, 2 or 3 dishes in a class. If you enjoy the course and the dishes you make you are more than welcome to book more courses later on.
 

How much does an online Thai cooking class cost?

 There are three price options, you can either learn to make one dish for 2,000 baht, two dishes for 3,750 baht or 3 dishes for 5,500 baht.

I offer a few different private cooking class options here on Koh Tao either for individuals or groups who prefer not to book onto my standard cooking class and would prefer a private cooking experience, the different choices I offer are as follows.

Option 1 - Private Thai Cooking Class with 1 or 2 participants

As this is a private class there will be no other people on the course with you, so you will get to pick the 3 dishes that you wish to make. These private cooking lessons are run at my home at the same time slots as the standard courses starting at either 9:30 am or 2 pm from Monday to Saturday, please contact me to confirm availability. If the slots when you are looking to come aren't available then there may also be the option for an evening class, contact me to check availability.

Book in to take the private cooking class for 1–2 people and get to pick the dishes that you would like to cook. The price for that is 6,500 baht for the class (not per person), and that includes all ingredients for 3 dishes.

Option 4 - Private Thai Villa Catering for up to 6 people

I can come and cook at your villa for up to 6 people with 1 starter, 3 main dishes, and 1 dessert of your choice from the menu. This can be arranged for a time that suits you. Contact me to confirm the details. If you don't have kitchen equipment at your villa, let me know in advance and I can organise it.

How much does catering at my villa cost?

Book in private catering at your villa for up to 6 people. The price is 9,000 baht, including all ingredients for 3 dishes. This can also be done in the evenings between 6 pm and 10 pm.
